A row has broken out over the cost of a senior management shake-up at a Devon council.
The former Liberal Democrat leader of Teignbridge Council says a cost-cutting exercise by the Tory authority will actually result in more staff and swell the wage bill by as much as £59,000 a year.
Councillor Alan Connett said figures “unearthed by the opposition” show that slimming down the operation from three directors to four “business leads” will have the inverse effect of swelling the combined salary of the new senior tier from between £226,175 and £285,124.
He also claims the changes were “forced through” by the ruling group without councillors being allowed to vote on the proposals.
