A shake-up of directors at Teignbridge Council will mean more people running the authority and a bigger management pay-bill.
Figures show that far from making a saving, the shake-up of directors could add as much as £59,000 a year to the council’s costs.
Just a month or so ago a new management structure was announced without councillors being allowed to vote on the proposals.
Now, Teignbridge will change from having three directors to four ‘Business Leads’ who, along with the Chief Executive will make up the council’s senior management team.
Currently, the pay bill for the three directors below the chief executive ranges between £203,585 to £226,175 on the pay scale but the new pay bill with four new managers will run between £256,648 and £285,124.
Teignbridge should be cutting top management costs, instead they are adding to the wage bill.
The four new ‘Business Leads’ will be appointed to run:
  • Strategic Place
  • Health and Housing
  • Environment and Leisure
  • Management and Customer Services
“The new top-level management is adding up to £59,000 to the pay bill at a time when money needs to be directed to the essential front line services that residents say are important.
