Revised plans for the proposed cycle bridge over the railway at Pwoderham were approved today by the planning committee at Devon County Council.

The new ‘shape’ loses the curved ramp up to the bridge from the Powderham side and is instead more angular. It is hoped the new design will allow the bridge and cycle path from Turf to Powderham to go ahead and some work could start in the new financial year (2013-14).

I raised the concerns of many local residents about the speed of traffic in Powderham and the likelihood that the cycle way will bring more drivers, with their bikes loaded up. The risks in my my view are there to see and the County Council needs to put measures in place now.

The planning councillors agreed to write to the relevant department at County Hall about the highways safety issue and I will be following it up too.
